c.1948 Blomer & Schüler, Jumbo Elephant in Original Box
Exceptional example of Blomer & Schüler's classic tin litho Jumbo the Elephant. High grade clockwork toy it comes complete with its elusive original box plus key. The key is unusual and very nice, but probably not original. Beautifully embossed, highly detailed, brightly colored, and its importance in American history has always made this a desirable toy by collectors. Originally available in two versions (one with howdah and driver), it's lumbering movement and overall appearance really make it look realistic. It's embossed three dimensional quality is seldom seen. The three dimensional aspect of the ears, eyes, and tusks all add to its realistic qualities. Wind 'er up and she walks slowly ahead alternating the pair of right legs with the left. In addition each pair of legs move in opposite directs so all four legs move in different directions at the same time. The overall effect produces a more "elephantine" movement. It also has her original brown braided cord tail. The underside is marked "Made in U.S. Zone Germany". The original box is light brown with blue print. Front and back panels show a detailed illustration of Jumbo. "Made in U.S. Zone Germany" was printed on the lower left corners. The side panels show the company's classic elephant logo. "Made in U.S. Zone Germany" is stamped right below the logo on one of these panels. The top and bottom endflaps are blank. The box is complete with all original paper. Nothing has been added.
